Real World Extracts Area
How To Use
When the page loads, or the rotating 'refresh' button is pressed, you will see 'Searching The
Archives' shown as the title of the page
and 'Loading' shown on the image on the right hand side. During this period, the searcher is
finding you a suitable passage of text
to practice on. Once it finds one, it will present it to you in the text box, and show a
relevant picture on the right hand side
if one is available.
Once loaded, you can begin typing the first word (highlighted in grey). This starts a timer, so
we can calculate your statistics
later. These are shown at the bottom of the screen ('Correct Words, 'Incorrect Words', 'Words
Per Minute', and 'Accuracy')
and are updated as you complete each word.
If you type an incorrect letter when typing a word, its highlighted colour will change to red.
You can then backspace to remove
the incorrect letter/s. Once you have done so, the active word's highlighting will turn back to
grey.
Once you have completed a word, press the spacebar to submit it. If correct, the word's
highlight will turn green and the next
word will activate. Everytime you submit a word, whether correct or incorrect, all your stats
will update.
If at any time you would like to restart on a new extract of text, press the rotating green
arrows next to the input box.
If you are interested in the text extract and would like to learn more, click the 'Wiki Puzzle
Ball' icon to the right of the
input text box. This will take you to the relevant Wikipedia page that relates to the extract.
Have fun, and I hope you learn something new!
